Why soccer players must make sacrifices to play at the next level

Published on August 3, 2018

In a previous post, we talked about step 1 of playing at the next level which is make sure your academics are in order (go read it if you haven’t already)!

Today, we are focusing on what your daughter needs to do on the field in order to become a boss at the next level.

I want to start off being honest…

…Playing at a high level in high school or college is not easy.

Unless your daughter is Alex Morgan, she is going to have to WORK to get there.

And I don’t mean just going to team practices and games when they’re scheduled.

The real work is going to come when no one is watching, when there is no one to pat you on the back or tell you what to do..

Soccer has grown massively over the last 5-10 years, which is great…

But it means that your daughter has more competition than ever before.

Unfortunately, if your daughter isn’t training on her own or getting extra help, she is going to get left behind.

Working to play at the next level requires sacrifices…

Ask anyone who played in college if they were able to go hang out with their friends every night or go to every dance at school.

(I bet the answer is no)

Heck, I never went to prom in all my years of high school because I always had soccer tournaments to go to (plus I never wanted to go;))

But you get the point!

If your daughter wants to go from club to a better club, JV to varsity, or play in college…

…she is going to have to make sacrifices to get there!

She needs to understand that its only up to her and no one else to get there.
