Tips to make the girls high school soccer team

Published on June 30, 2018

The summer and high school off-season is where the decision is made as to whether or not your daughter will make the high school team.

(If your daughter isn’t to high school age yet, save this post so she can refer to it when the time comes)

Whether this is your daughter’s first year and she wants to make the JV team, make the Varsity team, or be a star on the Varsity team, it is important to put in the work ahead of time so that she is confident when tryouts roll around.

Here are 4 tips to make the High School team:

1. Take part in optional off-season workouts

The “optional” workouts prove who really wants it. Even though the coaches aren’t there, the captains do, and the captains will always report to the coaches.

2. Put in the work on your own

This includes getting better at soccer specific skills, as well as conditioning. Some high school teams will require that you pass a fitness tests in order to make the team. This also weeds out the girls that aren’t committed.

3. Play with players bigger, faster, and stronger than you

This is especially important if this is your first year trying out or if you want to make the Varsity team. The girls you will be playing against will be faster, bigger, and stronger than girls you’ve played against in the past. Go out and play pick-up with older kids or girls that are better than you!

4. Get good grades!

If your GPA isn’t up to par, all your hard work will have been for nothing. Getting good grades is the single-most important thing and will affect every area of your life.

Hope this helps, let me know if you need any help in how to make the team coming up!
